The paper shell journal

Cascarón

A bright little workshop diary for handmade paper shells. Log every layer and how long it dried, plan the break seam, and write down how each shell cracked at the party, so the next one breaks exactly where you want.

Made for shell makers

Cascarón keeps the whole story of a shell in one place, from the first strip of newsprint to the moment it opens.

🧻

Layers and drying

Add newsprint, kraft, tissue or a paste coat. Every layer remembers when it went on, and the app warns you when a strip landed on a wet wall.

Break seam planner

Choose a high ring, waist ring, low ring or spiral, then set how many layers are peeled on the line. The shell preview shows the seam right away.

After the party

Record whether the shell cracked on the seam, held strong or broke too early, how hard the hit was, and rate it. The journal explains what happened.

Side by side

Pick two shells of the same form and compare layers, drying gaps, wet landings, seams and results. Differences light up so you see what changed.

Try it first
Four simple steps

From strip to crack

The same rhythm every maker knows, with a journal that keeps count for you.

1

Pick a form

Choose an egg, star or cone, set the size, the target number of layers and the party date.

2

Lay and dry

Log each layer. Rings on the drying rack show when the wall is ready for the next one.

3

Plan the seam

Mark where the shell should split and how many layers you peel along that line.

4

Crack and learn

After the party, record the result. Your form cards learn which layer count works best.

Workshop

Your drying rack at a glance

See which shells are still damp and which are ready for another layer. Switch the air between dry, normal and humid, and the drying time adjusts.

  • Drying rings count down for every shell
  • Upcoming parties with a clear on-track check
  • Search, filters and sorting for the whole journal
Every shell

Walls, seams and colors

Each shell has its own page with a wall thickness meter, the layer timeline, the break seam, paints, decor paper, the party date and notes.

  • Wet wall warnings on the timeline
  • Seam editor with a live preview
  • Paints and paper stay with the shell
After the party

Learn from every crack

Write down how the shell opened and put two shells of the same form face to face. Cascarón points out what made the difference.

  • Three clear outcomes with a hit strength
  • Egg rating and a short note
  • A verdict on which recipe won

Good to know

Questions

What is a paper shell?

A hollow shell built from strips of paper and paste over a form. It is decorated with paint and paper and cracked open at a celebration. Cascarón helps you build shells that open cleanly.

Why does drying time matter so much?

A strip laid on a wet wall makes the shell soft and uneven, so it often breaks in the wrong place. Cascarón tracks the hours between layers and marks any wet landing.

What is a break seam?

A planned weak line where fewer layers are left. When the shell is hit, it opens along that line. You choose the placement and how many layers are peeled.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Everything works offline and stays on your device.

Can I make my own forms?

Yes. Create a form card on an egg, star or cone base, set the recommended layers and drying time, and start new shells from it with one tap.
